The “Spirit of Teignmouth” is a state-of-the-art multi-hull sailing yacht (tri-maran) built to enable one man, Simon Chalk, to take on the world's oceans and create sailing history. The “Spirit of Teignmouth” project is focused on getting involvement from local schools and the wider community. Simon's key aim is to encourage the next generation to think about their ambitions and to show them that there are no limits to what an individual can achieve.

The Spirt Of Teignmouth

From the shores of Devon he will set off on a unique solo circumnavigation of the globe in his purpose built trimaran “Spirit of Teignmouth,” striving to return to those same shores having set a new bench mark for Ocean Sailing. The yacht, which is currently under construction at its purpose built complex in Devon, will be created using local tradesmen and the vast reservoir of skills and experience available in the South West. It will be assembled in Teignmouth, in advance of its launch, where we aim to create an evolving and public project that the local community can watch develop, feel part of and benefit from.

Along with the construction process and the actual execution of the voyage we aim to create an educational package that will run in tandem with all aspects of the project. Tapping into the many different skills and disciplines employed to achieve our goals in such a way that it will connect with the school curriculum, benefiting students of all ages nationwide. We look forward to keeping you informed of every part of our progress as “The Spirit of Teignmouth” project builds towards achieving its goals.
